A Little Background

I started Heartman Clothes back in 2016 my senior year of college when I realized in my final semester that I had no interest in pursuing anything related to my major (love that for me). It was a scary realization that I just spent the past 4 years studying something that I wanted nothing to do with, and I had no idea what I wanted to do with the next year of my life, let alone the next 10. I began distracting myself from the imminent quarter-life crisis by teaching myself to use Photoshop and designing t-shirts - they were pretty cringey and horrendous tbh, but I kept with it. I had always been creative and crafty, but never seriously considered pursuing anything in a creative field. Before Instagram and social media, creative professions didn’t seem like as much of an option to me while growing up in a family with traditional careers. 

I took a couple of my designs and printed them on some basic white tees, just hoping to sell a few. They definitely were not good, and it started off pretty slow. Yet, I found myself staying up all night until 2 AM, eagerly learning and designing. It was all I wanted to do in my free time, and that’s what made me realize I was finally finding my path. Realizing this was my passion, I decided I was going to go all in on making this my career, and would just learn as I go. After looking at my old designs, I am not sure what gave me the audacity to continue… but I’m glad I did (see below).

Flash forward 5 years, and it is my full-time job! The brand has come so far from where it began, but in the process of trying to grow it, I realized it hadn’t matured with me like I wanted it to and just needed a face-lift.

What can you expect from the rebrand?

We are still focused on 3 core ideas: being kind to yourself, being kind to others, and being kind to the Earth, and will still be donating to charity with each product and collection, of course. The same brand, just a little more grown up.

We’ve also made some production and printing changes to provide you with better quality products and faster turnaround time - which means more cool stuff, more often, and with higher quality. We are also taking the charity donation down to 3% of profits. To be transparent, 10% is just too high of a percentage for us as a small business when trying to use ethically sourced products and also maintain a price point that is fair to you guys. 

I am so excited to take my little first-born business from a teenager to adult! Thanks for being with us for all these years :) We have fun things coming for you!
